Music fans play a very significant role in worldwide music industry. People’s Music Store is a new UK project which lets fans to take part in selling their favourite music. Each website user can create a webpage with recommendations, reviews and a personal shop to sell records. Records are provided by People’s Music Store owners (fully licensed).
When a website visitor buys any music according to such e-shop recommendations, its owners gets 10% commission. Artists and record labels get full payment for product and project owners – their sale commission.

Website cooperates with such renowned labels like Warp Records, Ninja Tune, Kranky and Domino Records. Artists, represented on the site: Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Autechre and Amon Tobin. Standard track price is 0.99 pounds, standard album costs 7.99 pounds.

I wouldn’t call this business really unusual, but it definitely is a great example of how to organize sales of such standard product like music tracks: by motivating website users to become sale agents. I guess this marketing idea can be successfully used also in other internet business niches based on product or service sales.
