Delaycast - Prediction of Flight Delays
May 26th, 2008
I just got back from my vacation on Mallorca, so sorry everyone for such a long silence! Actually my new post is inspired by travelling and it is about quiet new, but already very popular start-up – Delaycast.
Travellers have always suffered from airlines which delay or sometimes even cancel their flights (by the way I’ve also once been a victim of such situation – Ryanair cancelled my flight to Glasgow and gave me loads of headache!). Now you can easily avoid such problems by simply visiting such great service as Delaycast.
Delaycast team have built mathematical models of the US air transportation system to predict delays and cancellations. There already are some few services that give travellers statistics about delays and cancellation for different airlines, but Delaycast uses an absolutely revolutionary model based on maths and technologies to predict possible problems with any flight in future.
The best thing about this business idea is that prediction – is only a trick to attract visitors to the website while their main business is in selling travel services via direct connection to Travelocity and Priceline.
It’s worth mentioning that this source does his job on a high level! Their predictions are correct for 80-90% of flights and they can predict delay for up to 15 minutes in a time period of 5-6 months. Now this system already includes 60 US airports and they keep developing it.
I wonder if such service will ever appear in my country…?
