Bizarre internet startup

the big word project

Paddy Donnelly and Lee Munroe created a website thebigwordproject.com and sell words - $1 per letter.

These guys are Master students from Northern Ireland, 22 and 23 year old. Here’s how they explain the main idea of this project: same words have different meaning for different people. Paddy and Lee thought that it would be great to let people define words and give them new meaning. The project allows you to purchase a word from the list to represent your site and when people click on it, they will be taken to your site. The project is aimed at changing definitions and creating a new tapestry of words, meaning altogether different things.

This project seems very similar to One Million Dollar Homepage, where million pixels were sold for $1 each. But actually this couple will get even $1 500 000 (if they’re lucky enough) as Oxford’s dictionary has 291 500 words as well as verbal forms, plurals etc.

Today they already have 4 188 redefined words. If we suggest that average word has some 5 letters, then these students already got $20 940 on their account. Not bad at all!

Hmm, I wonder what else could we sell for $1 apart from pixels and letters? What do you say about numbers? I think One Million Number (or Numeral?) homepage could get some few dollars as well!:)
