Adventure tractor ride
May 6th, 2008
This Saturday I was watching news and one of the reports was dedicated to unusual businesses. There were various good ideas (I will definitely write about them in my future posts), but one of them impressed me the most – German entrepreneurs offer rides on farm tractors as an entertainment for adults.
There is always a kid in each and every of us and what do young boys usually dream of? I guess that riding a huge truck or tractor is one of the most common dreams and these guys help grown-up men to let their inner child out and make their childish dream to come true.
Unfortunately there were no details like company name or rates or anything else I this report and today, before starting this post, I tried to find some information about this business in google. It took me a lot of time to realize that I can’t find anything. But while searching, I stumbled on another business idea, which seems even more fascinating – adventure sightseeing tours with vintage tractors!
Company named “Heritage Adventure Tractors” (http://www.heritagetractoradventure.com) offer 5 day tours combining 3-day vintage farm tractors and displays with historical rides, sightseeing and entertainment. The only huge disadvantage if their idea – you have to have your own vintage tractor (which is at least 30 year old, with rubber tires and which travels at least 6 mph). If you meet these requirements, then you should pay $175 registration fee per tractor and $75 per each driver. Meals, accommodation and other services are available upon request and for additional charge.
These conditions seriously limit company’s potential clients… I guess that this business could be arranged in much more commercial way:
1. agree with farmers who would rent you their tractors for a moderate price.
2. make up an itinerary of the tour (you should avoid big cities and busy roads, of course)
3. book accommodation & catering along the route and add your commission to the price (you can get group discounts from hotels and restaurants which wouldn’t be available for FIT clients if they would arrange everything personally)
4. you can also think of some additional services (visits to museums or other attractions etc.) which clients could get for extra payment (with your commission, of course)
5. find a tour leader (or work as a tour leader yourself)
6. advertise the tour, form a group and start earning!
