gift

Christmas is over and there are chances that you are one of millions stuck with an unwanted present. Just like every year you received dozens of scented candles, novelty neck ties and foot spas, ugly socks and jocks? Don’t even think of hiding them at the back of the cupboard to gather dust, turn your misfortune into fortune!

Different surveys revealed that a significant number of unwanted gifts are either re-gifted or returned for exchange. But the majority of them are sold via internet.

EBay spokeswoman Inessa Jackson says “Why would you put yourself through the pain of the Boxing Day sales mayhem to return unwanted gifts, when you can sell them online from the comfort of home and avoid all the crazy crowds and parking hassles?”

And she’s right! Ebay said Boxing Day was one of the most active days on the website, with a significant spike in the number of books, CDs and DVDs posted for sale.

According to statistics people would be most likely to sell items such as food and drink (35 percent), beauty and bath products (23 percent) and trinkets or collectibles (18 percent). Top items to resell include electronics and appliances (18 percent), DVDs, CDs and books (11 percent) and event tickets (11 percent). More popular than ever, 65 percent of all adults view reselling gifts more socially acceptable now than it was several years ago. About a quarter of adults (23 percent) have resold their misfit holiday gifts in the past, and afterwards, more than half of them (53 percent) feel satisfied while 36 percent feel relieved.

I think it’s extremely convincing! Unwanted gifts are usually sold on sites like Ebay, but as far as I know there are no specialized online shops for selling only gifts, although such shop might be very popular. Visitors won’t have to spend too much time searching for something that might become a gift on sites that sell everything. They will have a special place where there are only gifts. I really hope someone will use this idea and next year we all won’t have to think twice when searching for an online gift shop!
