If you have visited the page „About” on this blog, then you know that I’m the owner of a small travel agency, that’s why for me travel industry is the most interesting market. I keep searching for new ideas of tours, destinations and niches in this business.
One of the latest ideas I’ve found in web – gay and lesbian travel. Of course I’ve heard about company’s specializing on such type of clients a long time ago. But I’ve always imagined that these are just regular travel agencies where managers simply do not make round eyes when 2 men or 2 women as for a room with double bed. My opinion turned out to be wrong.
These companies are selling tours that were specially designed for gays and lesbians and are not suitable for other clients. For example on travel agency’s Amro webpage
http://www.amroholidays.com/ I found an offer – cruise on Danube river in Hungary only for ladies. Same company offer tours to gay beaches in Barcelona district.
From my point of view it’s a potentially successful commercial idea! People with untraditional sexual orientation more then all others appreciate individual approach towards their needs and special interests. I suppose any gay couple will be irritated and unsatisfied after a holiday with a regular tourist group where some people might look at them with incomprehension… They will definitely choose a specialized travel agency where they can travel with people who share their views to receive a maximum pleasure from holidays.

Unfortunately this business idea is not suitable for my country because people are still too conservative and gays and lesbians are not willing to flaunt their sexual orientation. Nevertheless this idea is perfect for Europe and USA, especially taking into account that competition in this business is much lower then between regular travel agencies. Besides you won’t need to spend a lot on advertising as your clients will be your referrals and will advertise your services among friends.
